Globalization in the modern world is a combination of international trade, commerce, and technology, which is why its influence has no boundaries. This has caused the rise of Social Media which has a very large sphere of influence. The development in technology has made access to Social media sites very effortless i.e faster connectivity, access to the internet even in remote areas, increase in the no. of social media sites, etc. Therefore, with the use of technology, social media has become a true form of a global village.

Social Media sites connect people from all around the world, to give corroboration on this, the year 2020 is a perfect example because due to the pandemic people are confined in their homes and therefore their physical interaction with friends, family, etc have been restricted but thanks to social media sites which have kept the connections in the world alive. Social media has also become a means to spread information, trends, and culture. It has enabled people to share their country’s local trend and culture with foreign countries. It has also emerged as a site for activism and a platform for many to convey their thoughts and beliefs. People affiliated with political parties, different social ideologies, and religious groups tend to spread their views easily to the masses.

Social media also has a drawback because it tends to spread misinformation and false propaganda. The outspread of inaccurate information leads to a negative influence among users. The most terrible thing that happens due to social media is cybercrime. The most common cybercrimes that occur on social media involve people making threats, bullying, harassing, and stalking others online. The offender often goes unpunished and therefore making these sites more vulnerable.

In conclusion, social networking sites like Instagram, WhatsApp, Twitter, Reddit, Pinterest, etc have created a social network to connect people and allow a free flow of culture & trends. The latest data shows that 4.14 billion people across the planet are using social media in October 2020, equating to 53 percent of the total world population. Keeping its negative aspects aside, social media has widely contributed to the course of action for globalization.
