The effects of globalization have become very common today in the world. Globalization is converting the whole world into a global village, where there is a movement of human beings, goods and services, capital, technologies, and cultural practices. There are four dimensions of globalization, namely economic, political, cultural, and ecological. In today’s world, each dimension including information technology (IT) plays a very crucial role. Today globalization is driven by various new development and gradual changes in the world economy.

The year 2020 has been a very unexpected nightmare for everyone because of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19). Due to globalization diffusion of people into different countries was one of the major reasons for the spread of coronavirus and because of this many countries have barred human movements. Here globalization may be seen as a cause of the spread of the disease, but it also acts as a savior. The innovations and technological advancement due to globalization have created a virtual world. I am attending my first-year classes at McMaster University through various online platforms such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Skype, and Webex, etc. Receiving online education from these platforms may have certain complications but they have resulted as the only solution in this phase. In this way, I can continue my education rather than being stuck. These online platforms have also helped me in interaction with new batch mates by creating an atmosphere of virtual campus. It’s kind of amazing to attend a University in Canada from my home country India, and then also making friends all over the world. All of this is a result of globalization being at its peak.

Therefore to conclude I would like to say that the borders of the countries may have been closed but because of globalization the connection between the countries is still there. In this way, globalization is acting like both a ‘’ cause ‘’ and ‘’savior’’ in this difficult time.

This is me taking an online lecture on global citizenship 1A03.
